Spine Problems - Back Pain

Back Pain

Back and neck pain are most frequently caused by a muscle strain or by soft tissue injury and rarely indicate a serious medical problem.

Bone, muscles, nerves and other soft tissues comprise the spine, and the spine is prone to injury or overuse because it is involved in almost every move our bodies make.

In some cases, back and neck pain result from a medical problem or condition requiring a doctor’s attention. Back and neck pain-causing conditions that should receive medical care include serious injury, herniated disc, scoliosis, spinal stenosis and spondolylosis. Pain failing to improve within 72 hours is a reliable indicator to seek medical attention.

Although most cases of back and neck pain are not serious medical conditions, chronic back pain is linked to recurring spine pain and prior unsuccessful surgeries. Treating chronic back pain is difficult because persistent episodes can affect how nerves respond to pain stimuli.
