Board Certified Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
Board Certified Electrodiagnostic Medicine
As a doctor who is board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation and electrodiagnostic medicine, Dr. Eduardo Elizondo melds medicine with fitness in order to return SpineAustin patients to a normal, active lifestyle. He also heads SpineAustin’s Electrodiagnostic Medicine Department.
As a physiatrist, Dr. Elizondo epitomizes SpineAustin’s commitment to conservative treatment that features the use of physical therapy and specialized injections techniques before considering surgical options.
Dr. Elizondo also is an outspoken advocate of patient education.
“While I’m caring for a patient’s initial problem, hopefully, I’m also springboarding him or her into a healthier lifestyle,” he said, adding he will often recommend yoga, tai chi, pilates or other home programs for patients.
He received his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio and completed his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans. In addition to being co-chief resident, he held a teaching position with the training program as a clinical instructor.

Dr. Elizondo is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine and a fellow of the Physiatric Association of Spine, Sports and Occupational Rehabilitation.
An avid golfer, he has been consulting physician for Austin’s Back-to-Golf Performance Center, which focuses on golf-specific rehabilitation and performance enhancement.
Dr. Elizondo was co-director at Austin Pain Therapy prior to joining SpineAustin.
His interest in rehabilitation and fitness has led Dr. Elizondo to develop care plans for patients who have suffered catastrophic injuries such as spinal cord and brain injuries.
A black belt in karate, Dr Elizondo said, “Sometimes the recommended activity is more Western, other times it has more of an Eastern flair. It is really important for patients to know proper breathing and movement.”
The father of two children, Dr. Elizondo is originally from northern Mexico and speaks fluent Spanish.
