Eduardo R. Elizondo, M.D.

Board Certified Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
Board Certified Electrodiagnostic Medicine

Dr. Elizondo is a specialist in physical medicine and rehabilitation and electrodiagnostic medicine holding board certifications in both specialties. He also heads SpineAustin’s Electrodiagnostic Medicine Department. His approach epitomizes SpineAustin’s commitment to conservative treatment featuring the use of appropriate diagnostic tools, physical therapy and specialized injection techniques before considering surgical options.

Dr. Elizondo melds rehab medicine and fitness in order to return patients to their normal, active lifestyle. “While caring for a patient’s initial problem, hopefully, I’m also springboarding him or her into a healthier fitness routine. This helps reduce the rate of re-injury and promotes better work and sports performance,” says Dr. Elizondo. Adding he will often recommend yoga, tai chi or pilates depending on the patient’s needs, stating that “core strength, muscle balance and coordination, as well as breathing through movement are the foundation of my philosophy.”

He received his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio and completed his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans. In addition to being co-chief resident, he held a teaching position with the training program as a clinical instructor.

Dr. Elizondo has been a consulting physician for Austin’s Back-to-Golf Performance Center, which focuses on golf-specific rehabilitation and performance enhancement. He is also a member of the American College of Sports Medicine and a fellow of the Physiatric Association of Spine, Sports and Occupational Rehabilitation.

His training and expertise in physical medicine and rehabilitation has led Dr. Elizondo to develop care plans for patients who have suffered catastrophic injuries such as spinal cord and brain injuries.

The father of two children, Dr. Elizondo is originally from northern Mexico and speaks fluent Spanish.
