Sacroiliac Joint Injections

Sacroiliac Joint Injections serve a therapeutic and diagnostic purpose, both treating pain and determining the source of pain. These injections target pain in the lower back associated with sacroiliac joint dysfunction.

The sacroiliac joints connect the base of the spine to the iliac bone of the pelvis. When these large joints become painful, the pain is felt in the back, buttocks and legs. Injecting these joints with a combination of local anesthetic and steroid can help to relieve the pain.

For the sacroiliac joint injection procedure, a physician uses fluoroscopy to pinpoint the injection location and then injects the joint with a local anesthetic and steroid.
