James H. Stanley, M.D.

Dr. James Stanley is a board certified orthopedic surgeon and fellowship-trained spine surgeon specializing in the treatment of cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine, using a multidisciplinary approach.

A native Texan, Dr. Stanley received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas at Austin in 1992 and received his medical degree at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in 1996. Dr. Stanley performed his internship and residency at the University of Oklahoma specializing in orthopedic surgery. He then completed a fellowship in spine from Brown University in 2002.

His medical areas of interest include minimally invasive spine surgery, adult deformity, trauma, osteoporotic fractures and disc replacement.

Prior to joining SpineAustin Dr. Stanley practiced in Beaumont, Texas for five years and San Marcos, Texas for four years. He became part of the SpineAustin team in December 2010.

“Most spine conditions can be adequately managed with non-operative means. I believe in a multi-disciplinary, collaborative approach to spine care, and that is one of the main advantages of being part of SpineAustin,” Dr. Stanley said. “We have the resources in place to diagnose and treat conditions of all parts of the spine, and we work closely together to determine quickly whether a treatment plan is working. Ineffective treatments are thus minimized, and in cases where surgery is needed, we get our patients back to their normal lives as quickly as possible.”

In his spare time, Dr. Stanley enjoys spending time with his wife and children.
